We Are Here!

Greetings and welcome to another holiday season!
Pull up a stump, we've got lots to talk about...

This past year started innocently enough. While searching out faculty positions, I helped my friend Craig start a web-based bio-informatics company Biocarta which is quite a hit and brought me to conferences this year in Seattle, Philadelphia and San Fransisco (& I managed to meet up with old friends and family at each). In June I became a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester in Radiation Oncology.
"Well the next thang ya know, ol Walt's a professaire, the kin folk said 'Dude move away from there, Californie's not the place you outta be' ... so we loaded up a truck and drove 'cross the whole country ... "

We stopped by Santa Clara 'on the way' to load up with more loot, and then were off to see Wendy and Chris in Salt Lake City on the way out and got to see a preview of Colter James, who was born a month later!

With the help of my family back in Webster, we managed to put an offer in on a house in NY before we even left CA, and after only another 2 months or so, we were able to move in to 2533 Lake Rd, Ontario NY, 14519, (315)524-5449. Leslie immediately went into nesting behavior, and within a few weeks our first house began to look like a home. [click photo for a bigger view out the dining room window]
1.5 Acres, 4 bdrm, 2 bath, 3+ car garage, boat house, dock, Snoopy flag. That's the homestead in the satellite photo on top.
Leslie is working full-time helping an autistic child keep up with his 4th grade classmates in a neighboring school district: challenging work, lousy pay. She also has been busy planting flowers, riding the lawn mower, making drapes, cooking the thanksgiving turkey, painting, and today got her first taste of shoveling snow off the driveway!!

I got a secondary appointment in the new UofR Biomedical Engineering Department and am now writing my first research grant. By the end of next year I might even have my own lab, students, and a class to teach. It is good to be back in the ol' homeland, and we're both doing our best to stay active with volleyball, soccer, canoeing, etc. with my family (esp. nephews!) and old friends.

So apart from relocating across the country, getting new jobs, a new house, 2 new cars and experiencing seasonal changes for the first time in many years (or ever), not much happening here.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!!!
