The primary background image for the site is a diploid fibroblast (termed a RIF [radiation-induced foci]) formed within the human normal diploid fibroblast (NDF) strain GM5757, fixed and stained for gammaH2AX (red) 10 minutes after a 1 Gy dose of radiation. DAPI (blue) staining denotes nuclear DNA. Images were taken at .5mm intervals. Shown is a composite image from superimposition of all levels of the deconvolced Z-stack using wide-field immunofluorescent microscopy (courtesy of Dr. Rob Bristow at the University of Toronto).
